We’re proud to support Big Movers for Parkinson’s, a group led by local resident Peter Dixon, that’s transforming lives in our community.
Peter’s journey is nothing short of inspiring. After being diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2014, he struggled to find accessible exercise therapy, which is essential for managing the condition. Drawing on his 14 years of experience as an Army physical training instructor, Peter took matters into his own hands and in 2015 launched Big Movers for Parkinson’s, providing tailored exercise sessions and a welcoming space for those who need it most.
Today, the group has 22 regular members who meet weekly at Hampson Park Community Centre in Stevenage. These sessions are more than just about exercise – they provide a chance to build friendships, share laughs, and feel part of a like-minded community. Peter is known for really going the extra mile, even visiting members at home to offer personalised exercises when they’re unable to attend. His dedication was recently recognised when he became a finalist at the Stevenage Together Awards.
We’re thrilled to play a small role in supporting Big Movers, ensuring they have a venue to continue their incredible work.
Christmas Parkinson’s Get-Together
Big Movers for Parkinson’s is hosting its annual Christmas gathering on Saturday, 21st December, from 2–5pm at Hampson Park. It’s a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the year and spread festive cheer. If you’d like to pop along, please let us know at simon.oshea@onefacility.co.uk
Want to Support Big Movers for Parkinson’s?
Peter is excited to announce the launch of a new group starting 10 January 2025, meeting every Friday from 2–3pm at the same venue. This will complement the existing weekly sessions held on Tuesdays from 10–11am, offering even more opportunities for people to benefit from this impactful programme.
